Northeastern University's M.A. in Writing provides a thorough background in theory, practice, and teaching of writing and reading. It is intended primarily for teachers, elementary through college levels. Instructors in this innovative program form a national faculty of leading scholars in their field.
All courses required for completing the degree are offered at Martha's Vineyard through the Institute on Writing, Reading, and Teaching. The degree may be completed in as few as four to five years, combining intensive summer sessions with writing and research projects conducted during the year.
No comprehensive or foreign language exams are required
for this degree. No
residency requirements apply other than summer sessions on Martha's
Vineyard.
As of Fall of 2003, Northeastern University operates on a three semester system (Fall, Spring, and Summer).
Under the semester system, M.A.W. students will complete five
core courses
(15 cr.), and five elective courses (15 cr.), for
a total of 30 semester credit hours for the degree.
