MVSI Faculty

Janet Ellerby is a professor of English at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where she specializes in contemporary women’s literature, autobiography, and narrative theory. Her publications include Intimate Reading: The Contemporary Women’s Memoir, and Following the Tambourine Man: A Birthmother's Memoir.

Kathy Short is a professor of Language, Reading, and Culture at the University of Arizona. She teaches courses in curriculum, reader response, and international literature. She is co-author of Creating Classrooms for Authors and Inquirers, Talking about Books, Literature as a Way of Knowing, and Stories Matter.

Bonnie Sunstein, a professor at the University of Iowa, teaches courses in nonfiction writing, research methods, English Education, and folklore. She is also Director of Undergraduate Writing and Coordinator for English Education. She is co-author of Fieldworking: Reading and Writing Research and has published Composing a Culture: Inside a Summer Writing Program with High School Teachers, The Portfolio Standard, and Portfolio Portraits.

Elizabeth Chiseri-Strater is a professor at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, where she develops programs in writing across the curriculum and teaches courses in nonfiction writing, research methods, and English Education. She is the author of Academic Literacies and Fieldworking: Reading and Writing Research.

Hephzibah Roskelly teaches courses in writing and rhetoric, pedagogy, women's studies and American literature at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. Her latest book is Reason to Believe: Romanticism, Pragmatism and the Teaching of Writing. Her book on collaboration is titled Breaking Into the Circle.

John Clifford teaches writing and literature at UNC-Wilmington. His many publications include Making Literature Matter and Writing Like a Critic.
