"Educating leaders in the profession for over 25 years." Every summer in July, Northeastern University hosts seminars in writing, reading, and teaching on the island of Martha's Vineyard. Participants may take these courses for graduate credit, or as an audit. "Blissful Revitalization" is the way one student describes the program. Indeed, all our graduate workshops are dedicated to exploring the most recent research and innovative practices combined with the best of traditional approaches to literacy. The Institute on Writing, Reading, and Teaching provides teachers with an unusually fine opportunity for professional growth. Designed for teachers by teachers, the Institute, which is administered by Northeastern University, addresses the latest approaches to writing, reading, and learning. Participants come from all levels of academia, from elementary to the college level. The Institute features a national faculty of distinguished teachers and writers. Students attend workshops in a comfortable intellectual setting. Away from the usual distractions of daily life, participants find that they can work productively, while enjoying the refreshing atmosphere of the Vineyard. |
